Poker games are extremely popular with nearly all generations of today's society. Having knowledge of basic poker rules is almost mandatory for those who enjoy parties or having a good time.

Poker, most notably Texas Holdem, Seven Card Stud, and Five Card Draw poker, is known as an American pastime and has been embraced by millions of people in the United States and worldwide. It seems like every day you can turn on the televised poker game being broadcast from one of multiple locations such as Las Vegas, Atlantic City, or in the UK.

The players that you see on television are typically professionals, otherwise they are very lucky individuals. What you probably don't think about is that these players weren't just born knowing how to play poker by the basic poker rules. These players had to start somewhere, just as you may be at the beginning of your poker journey.

Personally, my first encounter with poker was when I was very young and was working at my very first job, Dairy Queen. Some of the guys thought that I would have a great time playing (or saw me as a good target) so they invited me to play with them. We played dealer's choice and games ranged from five card draw to texas holdem. They also taught me how to play a game known as guts and progressive, both of which had very large and risky pots.

I had a lot of fun on my first experience with poker, but I did lose a couple of dollars. I understood that there was this risk before I even started playing, but I also knew that it was worth learning to play a new game, having a chance to win, and hanging out with some cool friends.

Anyways, I hope that you can use this resource to learn how to play poker by the basic poker rules. I've tried to cover all of the mainstream games, without having to waste my time on less popular games such as Dirty Schultz.

Read the poker rules, pay attention, and you will be on your way to having a very entertaining poker life. Hopefully, it will be full of good luck.
